Allah (God) teaches us in the Qur’an that saving the life of one person is equivalent to saving the whole of humanity:

Because of that, We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land – it would be as if he killed all mankind, and if anyone saved a life – it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. And Our Messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed, many of them, [even] after that, continued to exceed the limits in the land.

[Qur’an chapter 5, Al-Ma’idah, (part of) verse 32]

Giving blood is a very easy and very effective way of saving lives, therefore the Islamic Diversity Centre arrange trips to the donation centre where volunteers turn up in masses to donate blood. When members of the Islamic Diversity Centre show up in large groups, this attracts attention and further provides opportunities to tell people about what our organisation is doing and opens doors for positive conversations about Islam. Even where discussion isn’t possible, negative perceptions are still tackled simply by the actions of those donating blood.
