PURPOSE

The purpose of Islamic Diversity Centre’s Make a Child Smile campaign is in its name. Our Volunteers take out hours of their day during the blessed celebration of Eid to visit the sick children in hospital and present them with gifts. Islam teaches Muslims to care for the sick. Make a Child Smile is the Islamic Diversity Centre’s platform to practice this Prophetic tradition. It has also provided a platform to not only share the joys of Eid but also share knowledge with non-Muslim patients and their families about what Eid is and why it is celebrated, while demonstrating the willingness of Muslims supporting their communities.

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet said, “Give gifts and you will love one another.” Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Book 30, Hadith 57 (Classed as Hasan by Al-Albani)

Since 2013, the Islamic Diversity Centre have visited hospitals such as the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI); Sunderland Royal Hospital, St Oswalds, James Cook and North Tees hospital in Middlesbrough. The organisation has built great relationships with the hospitals and staff and has left an impression on many patients.
